     <directions>
       <step>
         Put everything except for the sausage in a large pot with 5 cups
	 of water. Stir and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover and simmer
	 for 22 minutes or so. Do this until lentils are nice and soft. Do
	 the next step at the same time.
       </step>
       <step>
         Depending on what type of sausage you get, this part may vary. I
	 usually have pre-cooked smoked sausage (like Hillshire Farms) so
	 I will heat the sausage in a small frying pan over medium heat in
	 some oil until they are a little bit brown all over. Of course if
	 your sausage is uncooked, you have to cook it up well. Another
	 option is to leave the sausage in the pot, for a more boiled taste.
       </step>
       <step>
         Stir in the sausage and heat them together a few minutes. This will
	 be enough for about three meals for one person, in my experience.
       </step>
